A faithful, living homage to the local terroir
The Ancienne Chardonnay Reserve is a blend of the most precious barrels from the 2013 vintage.
In the vineyard
A warm and dry fall season provided perfect conditions to ripen Chardonnay in the Annapolis Valley’s finest sites. Careful attention to maximize flavour potential started early in the vineyard with extensive cluster removal, leaf removal and shoot positioning. Grapes were handpicked from our certified organic vineyards, grown according to biodynamic farming principles. A first round of hand-sorting took place in the vineyard at harvest time, ensuring that only the highest quality clusters were brought to the crush pad.
The grapes used in the Ancienne Reserve came from our most treasured Chardonnay block; the oldest planting in our Estate vineyard with the best exposure.

In the glass
A brilliant straw-gold hue shines from the glass. The nose exhibits rich aromas of ripe golden apple, lemon custard, and vanilla bean intertwined with layers of fresh butter and subtle smoky undertones. The palate, broad and full with a rich texture indicative of extended lees time in fine French oak, is amazingly well balanced by classic Nova Scotian brightness and structure. A pronounced mineral-core gently gives way to a luxurious finish with flavours of ripe citrus and clove.
